History of the English Language Education Study Program
The English Language Education Study Program is one of the youngest study programs under the Faculty of Dharma Acarya, Universitas Hindu Negeri I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar. This program was officially established and began its operation based on the Decree of the Director General of Hindu Community Guidance, Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 128 of 2017 concerning the License for the Implementation of the Undergraduate (S1) Program in the English Language Education Department, Faculty of Dharma Acarya at the State Hindu Dharma Institute of Denpasar, issued on June 21, 2017.
The English Language Education Study Program is the only program under the Department of English Language Education, and thus it is directly led by a Head of Department appointed and dismissed by the Rector through an official Rector’s Decree. The first Head of Department was Dr. Made Iwan Indrawan Jendra, S.S., M.Hum., assisted by Secretary of Department I Putu Andre Suhardiana, S.Pd., M.Pd., serving from July 13, 2017, to October 29, 2017. On October 30, 2017, the position of Head of Department was assumed by Dr. Si Luh Nyoman Seriadi, S.Pd., S.Ag., M.Ag., with I Putu Andre Suhardiana, S.Pd., M.Pd. continuing as Secretary of Department. Along with the transformation of the State Hindu Dharma Institute of Denpasar into Universitas Hindu Negeri I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar in 2020, the leadership of the Department of English Language Education was reconfirmed on February 5, 2021, with Dr. Si Luh Nyoman Seriadi, S.Pd., S.Ag., M.Ag. as Head of Department and I Putu Andre Suhardiana, S.Pd., M.Pd. as Secretary of Department. On April 1, 2024, the leadership was continued by Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Agung Wijaya Mahardika, S.Pd., M.Pd., as Head of Department, accompanied by Putu Santi Oktarina, M.Pd., as Secretary of Department.
The Department of English Language Education carries the vision of Developing excellence in English language education based on Experiential Learning and Social Emotional Learning through holistic learning experiences to foster humanist character. Guided by this vision, the English Language Education Study Program continuously strives to improve the quality of education, research, and community service in the field of English language education.
